Made for rooms with high ceilings typically 8 feet or higher. Proper downrod length for higher than normal ceilings. If your ceiling is at least 8 high you may want to consider a fan with a short downrod rather than a flush mounted fan. This downrod chart helps us to determine which downrod size you need for your fan based on the height of the ceiling.

This is a fan without a downrod. 9 ft ceiling 6 in downrod. Hunter fans are compatible with single threaded downrods while hunter original fans require a double threaded downrod. Check the packaging to see if the downrod is included and note the size.

You can also refer to the downrod length chart below for additional guidance in selecting the right measurement. This keeps the fan at least 7 above the floor and still provides for good air flow. Most ceiling fans come ready to install on an 8 ceiling. For a ceiling below 8 feet we recommend a flushmount or hugger fan.

For example if your ceiling is 12 feet high and your ceiling fan is 12 inches in height you will need a 24 inch downrod to mount the ceiling fan between eight and nine feet above the floor. Many ceiling fans include a downrod. Ceiling height in feet minus 9 includes the fan height downrod length for example if your ceiling is 12 high you will need a 3 downrod to ensure the fan is positioned at the proper height.
